Assembling your holistic team: why one modality isn’t enough
Today's holistic landscape spans over 200 distinct practices—from ancient traditions to innovative blends creating powerful new approaches. While purists sometimes resist these evolutions, any modality that helps someone heal deserves its place. The beauty lies in finding the unique combination that resonates with each individual's needs.
In this episode, Yuli Ziv, founder of Heallist, explores the value of building a holistic team—just like assembling specialists in conventional medicine. Some begin with physical practices like yoga or movement therapy, others with energy work or mental wellness coaching. There’s no single correct entry point. What matters is recognizing that comprehensive healing typically requires multiple approaches.

Welcome to the Healist Podcast, where we unpack the many layers of holistic health. I'm Yuli, founder of Healist, your portal to holistic healers worldwide. Now let's go deep. Hello, dear friends, and welcome to this new and exciting format for the Healist Podcast. We are live on video. It's a new chapter for me, for this incredible container that I've been creating for the past two years, and I feel like I'm ready, and we're ready, to step more into the light and share our message in this new format and hopefully it resonates.
Yuli:I know some of you still might be listening on audio, but just so you know, now you can find this podcast in a video format as well on YouTube, spotify and, of course, on our social channels. So super excited to try this and share more with you, more of my personal stories, my journey, my views on holistic healing, as well as have some new guests coming in as well. Today. I wanted to start by bringing a really a topic that really close to my heart and one of the myths I would say about holistic healing, and it's this idea that it takes one practice or one session or one practitioner to give you that miraculous results, and I think a lot of people come to holistic healing, looking for that savior right, looking for somebody who completely can transform them in an instant, and, as many of us who've been in this field and working and going through our own journeys, we know that it is one of those things that it takes work and layers, and it takes multiple healers and practitioners to often get to a place of balance and coherence, and that's what really the ultimate goal that we're looking for. So one of the things that I'm passionate about and Healist is really the reflection of that I'm passionate about the variety of holistic healing modalities that there are out there and it's really incredible, especially what's been happening in the past few years, because what we're seeing is in addition to all the ancient modalities that have been here for thousands of years.
Yuli:Because what we're seeing is in addition to all the ancient modalities that have been here for thousands of years, some of them have been forgotten, some of them are being rediscovered or some of them have been preserved, you know, like acupuncture and Chinese medicine or shamanism, and some of the more mainstream modalities today, like yoga and meditation, right, but there's so many new modalities that's being created now that are sometimes a blend of different ancient techniques or even modern discoveries and sometimes it's just completely new downloads that are practitioners receiving and they create completely their own movement or technique. So it's been really exciting to watch. Today, on our platform alone, we have 200 plus modalities, and most of them are submitted by our community. Some of them are researched by our team, but it's really an almost every day. We get suggestions for new modalities to add to that incredible list.
Yuli:So this is something that people that come to holistic healing are not always aware of. There's definitely modalities that are more common and more becoming more mainstream these days, but there's just so many more that are just beautiful blends of different teachings and, of course, on that subject, we can go into the topic of resistance. There's so many people that say that the purity needs to be preserved right and they're seeing those modalities that are forming and that are blends right and they're saying, well, this is not pure, it's not honoring the traditions. And I come from a school of thought that if it works for somebody, if it helps one person to heal, it has a place in this world. And, of course, we welcome our community, we welcome all modalities and and practitioners of all kinds, but it's something that is not often seen by clients or people that are seekers who come to the space, right, and they have very, maybe sometimes a vague idea what is holistic healing all about, right? So just acknowledging that holistic healing is this beautiful, beautiful field that really hosts a variety and really really a whole range of modalities that addresses anything from body, mind to spirit. And this is really one of the key benefits of working with holistic healers that often, and many of those modalities, they really work on all three of the aspects and this is something that you won't find in traditional medicine and any other techniques, and that's the beauty of it.
Yuli:And I think often the practitioners or people that work with those modalities they don't give enough credit, right, how much their work is really working all those three layers. For example, even yoga, right, often perceived in our Western world as maybe a fitness routine or ritual, while in fact, anyone who studied yoga deeper understands that it really works on calming our mind, connecting us to our spirit and, yes, there is also fitness benefits to that. But really, at the core, yoga was created to help us sit still in meditation. So, again, a lot of those modalities and yoga is a holistic healing modality, even though, again, it might be seen as a fitness practice, but it has a deep healing roots, I think. Again, just to address another challenge that people have with the word healing itself, just even me saying that yoga is a healing modality might trigger some people or raise some questions, but it is, and the word healing is referring here.
Yuli:In case of yoga, if you are practicing them on yourself, you are healing your body, you are stepping into that path of a healer for yourself, and any yoga practitioner or teacher who takes you there, helps you, guide you there, they're purely a guide on your healing journey and you're the one who's taking charge of your body and mind and spirit. So to get back to multiple modalities idea, so anyone who comes to this holistic healing space often gets overwhelmed once they start digging into who is out there, what modality to choose. It's very easy to get overwhelmed, and understandably so, if you had to choose between 200 different modalities and a lot of them again are still pretty new and you might not have exact idea what to expect multiple modalities and how. It's important to have your holistic team in place right, because you're going to need multiple guides on this journey. It won't be a one modality or one session of one practitioner that's going to solve all the things that you're working through, all the releases that need to be released for you, all the limiting beliefs, all the blocks on this journey back to your spirit. So, really working with a team and slowly forming that team I understand it might take some time but really focusing on building that team that has your back. That, just like in traditional medicine, when you come see, maybe, an internal doctor, a GYN, a gastro doctor, whatever, that is, all those different specialties, so you have to think in a holistic healing with a similar approach. So, even though the specialties are less by organs and body parts, they're more by approaches to healing. Right. And this is where you have the freedom, as a seeker of someone who's coming on this path, to really decide what's right for you.
Yuli:For some people it might be easier to start with the physical aspects, to start with their body. Maybe there's a movement, maybe it is a yoga, maybe it is a qigong or something that moves more of the energy. But for some people they might want to go first into the spirit side of things, when they feel like they really need help with their energetic field, their electromagnetic field. That's where energy healing might be beneficial or something like, even like acupuncture, that can really help move the energy in the right direction. But for some people maybe they come to this place in a stage when they really need holistic help quickly and they are faced with a physical condition. They might seek something, that integrative medicine or functional medicine, to really address some of the symptoms as well and not just the root of the problem. And then some people it might be completely mental right, mental blocks and challenges around their lifestyle choices, for example, so it could be coaching or a nutritionist right who works really to look at their lifestyle and adjust some of those choices. So really there's not one path at all. But again, of seeing it as a team of professionals who are working with you is really important Because, again, often the disappointment in holistic healing comes from that idea or that expectation that one practitioner or one modality is going to fix it all, and that's, of course, is unrealistic.
Yuli:So if you are somebody who's just embarking on this journey of holistic healing, if you are somebody who's just embarking on this journey of holistic healing, I highly recommend to look at it as more of a journey, where you're now stepping on this path, when you're going to be discovering parts of yourself and you're going to be working on different parts of yourself through different guides and different modalities that will teach you a lot about yourself, about your body, mind and spirit. Just look at it as a team that is really there for you and rooting for you, that you're creating, and it might take years. Right, it might be that you're starting again with one of the areas and then adding another layer, and that might lead you that modality might lead you to something else Again. If you start, for example, with breath work as a way to release trauma, you might discover that it's really helpful to embrace meditation right after, because this is where you're going to get the deeper insights and even integrate your release even deeper. So this is what happens to most people on this journey you start with monomodality, but then you start uncovering. If you have that natural curiosity in you, you will start uncovering more and more ways to go deeper in those practices and again, the benefits are really incredible.
Yuli:If you are somebody who is able to expedite that process and really come to a place where you are open to working with multiple practitioners and embracing all those different parts of yourself, the results are really incredible and I have to tell you from my own personal story somebody who's been on this holistic healing journey for most of my life, but really more actively, like it is my job for, I would say, the past five years it's really incredible once you start layering those practices right and for me it was actually starting with meditation and really getting deep and deep into the practice and then layering on other and then uncovering sometimes part of myself that I thought I was comfortable with but all of a sudden, through this practice of meditation, I realized that they don't belong to me. For example, really since I started my deep meditation practice, I realized how my body was out of alignment because, first of all, it was really hard to sit still for too long and it really started bothering me to the point that I started to seek professional help from a holistic practitioner who does a body alignment and works with Chinese medicine, acupuncture and again, more of like a chiropractic alignment to help me to realign my posture, my back, I have to tell you, all of that had tremendous effect on me, just in terms of even breathing and being able to speak more clearly. And again, for years it's just something that I didn't prioritize and I didn't think it was of importance until again I started to meditate and I discovered how much my back was out of shape from years of sitting in front of a computer and working in tech. So this is just one example. And then, you know, once I moved into that, of course yoga has been always part of my life, but also layering breath work on top of it.
Yuli:Through some of the yoga practices and some of the practitioners I worked with, they started incorporating breath work into yoga practices and I saw how powerful it was and it was giving me a release that just a pure yoga practice was not enough and that wasn't giving right. So just learning more about breath work and reading books I'm a big believer and if the practice interests me, I'm going to pick up a book on the subject and just go, not just with my body and my practice but also with my mind, and it really helps me to understand how things work and it makes it more integrated practice. So, you know, once I got into breath work, I read some amazing books, including a breath, and it was just really mind blowing to understand the importance of like simple practice that we take for granted so much. Just even you know the fact that breathing with an open mouth is not, it's not advisable, right For many, many reasons. So just learning those simple techniques and really taking those practices and layering them together.
Yuli:So really today, when I look at my life and the amazing team that I've assembled really it has all of those different components I tend to do a breathwork session, a guided breathwork session with a practitioner once in a while, breathwork session, a guided breathwork session with a practitioner once in a while. I'm still part of the meditation classes and groups and even though I practice on my own as well, but it's really important to have a guide and somebody who can help you uncover more and more layers. I try to see a body alignment practitioner at least every quarter, if not more often if I need to, and acupuncture and things like that. I work with a herbalist when I feel like I have hormonal imbalance or anything that comes up in my life or maybe too much stress that causing different other conditions. I'm just fortunate I guess, by working in this field, have access to a lot of those people that can help with all those different moments in life, right when we really need help. And of course, for me. That's what brought me to bring access to more people to holistic healing, because I saw how important it was for me again, not just find one person, but find a team that I could, that I could plug into their wisdom and their skills anytime me and my body we needed it, and how important it is for every person to have access to all those incredible, incredible healers.
Yuli:And I know that a lot of people might think well, it's also a place of privilege, right To have those people, and I know a lot of those treatments. They might not be accessible to all, but I have to encourage you that. My counter argument to that first of all, a lot of those practices are either completely free or they cost as much as maybe reading a book on the subject, just like with breath work, maybe taking one guided session and practicing on your own and really seeing it more as an opportunity to learn right. So I really love this idea of hiring hiring a holistic healer or teacher to show you some techniques, right when it comes to like meditation or or breath work again, and then continuing on your own and reading more books and and maybe attending some free classes most practitioners I know there are here in this world to serve you and to serve people in need, and most of them offer some sort of a free offering or a class or a course or even a free consultation. I know for sure because 30% of the sessions that are our services that are posted on Healist, on our platform, they're free. They're a free consultation, whether it's exploratory call or just an initial consultation or a quick intro, where you have an opportunity to get to know the practitioner, ask them some questions, but it's really more accessible, I would say, than people think. And not to mention that there's a lot of practitioners in other countries in this world that are working remotely or virtually. So if you're somebody who lives in the Midwest, you know are able to maybe access a practitioner all across the world and something like Indonesia for very little price. And this is exactly where a platform like ours comes in, because we are able to offer global services and access to global practitioners. Just think outside the box.
Yuli:I would really encourage people not to make the financial abundance a block in accessing holistic healing Because, like I mentioned, there are just so many ways to do so. There's healers in other countries that their currency just has a big difference with yours and they suddenly are much more accessible than your local practitioners. There are free classes that are hosted. Often there's whole platforms that do like virtual summits and where you can maybe not work one-on-one with a practitioner but learn about a lot of those techniques and, again, and most practitioners that I know, if you are somebody in need and you really come from a genuine, authentic place and you share your story, they will be able to help you. A lot of them you know take also clients in need, often knowing that it's a beautiful karmic cycle that will usually repay itself. You can work with them, talk to them. A lot of them also offer sliding scale services. That's another great thing about this incredible community of healers. They're really here to serve all clients of all ranges and all access levels. A lot of them will offer what's called a sliding scale pricing, which is a range right and you're asked to offer what you can afford this moment. So, again, I don't think finances should be an issue in accessing holistic healing. In most cases, it's your own internal resistance or maybe the fear of the unknown right.
Yuli:A lot of those modalities, like I mentioned, they're still new. They're still being explored. Some of them are still being scientifically proven, but the idea is that they're out there and there are so many ways to approach different, even diseases like cancer, with holistic healing these days, and there's so many beautiful practitioners that really specialize in those. Whether it's a menopause or, again, cancer treatment, even if they don't provide the primary care for you, they're able to support you on those journeys. And again, I think it's more about the exploration and realizing that it might take multiple modalities and the multiple healers to bring you to that state of coherence and, most importantly, to remember that they're just here to guide you, to guide you to your own coherence and your own balance, to guide your body to that state of homeostasis, and that we all are craving and it's our birthright, but ultimately it's you who is healing you. So they're just here again to guide you, but it's your body, your mind, your spirit that is assisting them on this journey. So I think it's incredibly important to be open and um and open to receive. A lot of us also have challenges to receive because we're more of a giving mode people. So it's something also that comes up a lot in holistic healing. But I really encourage.
Yuli:My mission here in the world is to encourage people to explore more of holistic healing and be open to many more beautiful modalities and offerings that are especially flourishing. In the last, I would say, couple of years, it's just been really really beautiful to watch different things, different practices, come to our world and there is something for everyone. It's so easy these days to find something that will resonate with your soul and really give you the solution that you're looking for. So that was my first episode. I hope you enjoyed it and I would love any questions and, of course, explore Healist and check out our beautiful platform that recently opened our doors to clients and serving clients on this journey, as well as healers, which we've been doing for the past couple of years. So we're really, really excited to open our doors and again help people navigate this journey of holistic healing and open their minds to all the beautiful practitioners and modalities that we have today, and I can't wait to serve more people and help more people on this journey when they come to realization that whatever they've been doing the traditional medicine, the healthcare system is failing them.
Yuli:Whatever brings you to holistic healing, it's an extremely welcoming world and it's a world of, I would say, the most kindest and open-hearted people that I've ever seen Just give it a chance and come to it again, also open-hearted, also know that it's a journey. It's not gonna take one miraculous healer on one miraculous modality to fix you right. It's about finding those guides, and in my next few episodes I'm gonna talk more about what it takes to find the right guide and what to look for and how to make sure you find those guides that really resonate with you. All right, my dear friends, it's been a true pleasure and can't wait to support you more on your holistic journey.
